YA Anthology

Hey everyone!
I thought I'd let you know that my MA coursemates and I are compiling an Anthology of our Young Adult writing to be released this summer. As part of this project we are publishing a blog to spread the word about the process, the genre, and writing in general. There will be a new post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
You can even check out a short story I wrote!
I'm not bragging when I say that I'm working with a very talented, creative group of authors!

Click the following link to check it out: Read Me Anthology
If you like it, follow it!

Library Battle Royale

“Calvin: I used to hate writing assignments, but now I enjoy them. I realized that the purpose of writing is to inflate weak ideas, obscure poor reasoning, and inhibit clarity. With a little practice, writing can be an intimidating and impenetrable fog! Want to see my book report?
Hobbes: (Reading Calvin's paper) "The Dynamics of Interbeing and Monological Imperatives in Dick and Jane: A Study in Psychic Transrelational Gender modes."
Calvin: Academia, here I come!”
From Calvin and Hobbes: Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat by Bill Watterson

Apparently University of Warwick students love the library. It's really kind of sad, but since I'm in their number I'm not going to judge too harshly.
How do I know that there is a deep seeded love for some quality library time by many here? Tickets to an Adele concert are less coveted than a desk in the Library!

A Road Trip to Scotland

“We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.”
From Four Quartets By T.S. Eliot

My first trip of my Spring Semester was a monumental occasion primary for one reason: we were road tripping to Scotland.
Last November my friends Caroline and Paula proposed that during "Reading Week" (basically Spring Break for the undergrads and a few lucky post-grads, not me - but who am I to complain when I only have class one day a week?) we go to Scotland. Their original plan included taking the train to Edinburgh and Glasgow then back to Coventry. Boring! I'd been both places and, since I've never been much of a clubber, I had no desire to go back to Glasgow. Instead I suggested something different, and a little daring: Driving.

So for months I've unsuccessfully been trying to capture Coventry's City Centre
It has not worked. I've given up trying to make it look attractive or interesting.
So here'e what I got: this used to be a street, now it's not, and they thought it'd be a good idea to have a glass roof-like thing that really just makes the space under it colder. It's the effort that counts?
I'll give them some credit, though: the Boots is on the left and the Waterstone's is on the right, what more does a girl need?

Dog Walking

“The old grey donkey, Eeyore stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Forest, his front feet well apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.”
From Winnie-the-Pooh By A.A. Milne

From my observations of canine behavior dogs in the UK are much better trained than their American counterparts. This is, of course, a generalization so please take it as such. I will admit that I've had a greater opportunity to observe dog walking here due to the fact that my bus stop is located on the edge of an extremely popular common in which people take their pets - I wouldn't recommend going for a stroll through it if you want to keep your shoes poop free.

Adventures in Shopping

“With the exception of dessert, food is food.”
From Two for the Dough by Janet Evanovich

One of the most disconcerting experiences that I've had since moving to England is shopping. Of course I knew that it'd be different than the US. I was prepared for not having good peanut butter. I wasn't, however, prepared for the other items that would be missing or different.

One of the three supermarkets I shop at.
It's nice because I can catch either the 18, 6, or 6A and I get dropped off almost a my door.
Who would have thought six months ago that I would rank the value of a grocery store based on ease of bus access!
