Bus Wisdom

“There are no safe paths in this part of the world. Remember you are over the Edge of the Wild now, and in for all sorts of fun wherever you go.”
From The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

Ten things I've learned about riding the bus (in no particular order):
  1. If you are running late, the bus is running early
  2. If you are running early, the bus is running late
  3. There are always more buses going the opposite direction than the way you want to go - no matter which way you are going
  4. Somewhere before a bus reaches the University there is black hole that sucks certain buses in when the screen at the stop states that they are DUE
  5. Sometimes it's just faster to walk
  6. If you aren't sure where to get off, don't ask the driver, he knows less than you do
  7. There is no need to press the call button if the sign already says "bus stopping." The driver doesn't need a count of how many people are getting off
  8. Before sitting down next to someone who you think is talking on the phone, make sure they are talking on their phone
  9. Remember that when shopping everything you buys weights twice as much when your get off the bus than when you got on
  10. And finally, make sure you don't miss the last bus of the evening, otherwise you'll either have a very long, or very expensive, trip home!
