Picture of the Day

With the WMG crew in front of The Kazakh House
(Really The House Formerly Know as the Kazakh House)
Don't worry, I'll tell you why it's named The Kazakh House
I'm pretty sure it's not going to be as funny to you as it is to us, but oh well, so is the effect of any inside joke.

"Not that long ago, in a place within walking distance there was a house..."

Next to Varsity (the only pub not on campus that we can walk to from campus) there is this house. During term we all wondered who lived there every time we passed. It's almost on campus and it's the only house around.
We made up wild tales about the goings on inside.
Term two we learned the truth: it was rented by a Kazakh - apparently the most awesome Kazakh in the history of Kazahs - who had intended to bring his family but their visas applications were rejected.
I learned all this one day when walking back to the library with Anni and Yerkish after eating at Varsity. Suddenly Yerkish was like 'I'm going to go' and then disappeared. Since there was nothing around to 'go' to (at least from my perspective) I gave Anni a confused look. As always, she had the answer; apparently all the Kazakhs hung out there - but no one else (except Atanas but he doesn't count because he's Bulgarian and so part of the "Russian Speaking Community"). They did wild things like play four person chess (an activity that just thinking about gives me a migraine). Clearly they were out of control. I mean, if they did such crazy things, what else could they be doing in there?

After that the house only grew in myth until it became the stuff of legends.

Now the guy has moved to Birmingham - so it must now forever be known as The House Formerly Know as the Kazakh House.

And that's the story, hope it didn't disappoint too much!

  1. It did not disappoint; and is truly the thing that legends--and great stories--are made of! May your imaginative juices continue to flow! Thanks for sharing. ~Mom
